What You Need to Know About Instagram’s New ‘Views’ Metric 💡

Ciao Creators!

I'm writing this from my hotel’s terrace in Venice, Italy, and it definitely makes writing this newsletter a lot more romantic.

Instagram is really shaking things up, huh? IG boss Adam Mosseri announced the platform will get rid of the “Impressions” metric and make “Views” the primary metric for Reels, Stories, photos, and carousels.

Well, what does that mean for you?

I’ll explain in today’s Creator Toolkit.

Here’s what you can expect in today’s newsletter:

  • Keep up to date with what’s happening in Quick Fire!

  • What are Instagram ‘Views’? Let me explain.

  • Social media Updates for this week

Instagram’s New ‘Views’ Metric: What You Need to Know

Instagram is shifting from “Impressions” to “Views” as the primary performance metric across all content formats—Reels, Live, photos, Carousels, and Stories.

Key Changes:

  • Reels: ‘Plays’ is now ‘Views,’ still counting every time a Reel starts or replays.

  • Photos, Carousels, Stories: ‘Views’ will be the primary metric, including repeat views.

  • Insights: The dashboard now features ‘Views,’ other metrics like ‘Accounts Reached’ and ‘Watch Time’ are still available but relocated.

I suggest focusing on two things: staying relevant by keeping up with trends and measuring real engagement through metrics like watch time, shares, and comments.

Check out this chart from Nick Cicero, who compares what counts as a view for each social platform.

THE DIG

READ: Last week, I mentioned that MrBeast is facing significant backlash following news that the production process for his upcoming Amazon show is being likened to the Fyre Festival and the firing of a friend and collaborator. Is the MrBeast brand showing cracks?

LISTEN: After four year uphill battle to become pregnant, Chloe Fisher gave birth to her beautiful baby, Bobbi. Joined by her best mate and co-host, Ellidy Pullin, the chicks recount their experience of Bobbi's birth. The bond these two express throughout this episode is beautifully intense, and you feel lucky to be a part of it, even if it's just listening in.

WATCH: Ryan Trehan, a darling YouTuber, crossed America to meet MrBeast and raise money for charity with just a penny. It was released as a daily vlog at the time, but I’ve been watching the full 30-day version during my travels. Ryan is just so happy, and his content will make you smile.
